My Experience
I interned for TCP for over 2 months.I worked 40 hours every week. Throughout my time there, it was a great and challenging experience. I got to visit and work in all 27 of the county's parks. I really liked how my supervisor scheduled my time, as i i would alternate each week working in the downtown office and at the parks. I got to see how each park was managed and the work it takes to keep those parks operating. I was also in charge of a recycling project. I mapped G.I.S. points of all the trash and recycling containers and suggested new points. I had never been a part of a project like that, so it was really interesting to learn about all the different aspects of recycling. I would definitely recommend this internship to anyone that is interested in a career in parks. The supervisors were very respectful and treated me like a full-time employee. The only thing that I did not like about the internship was the lack of perks. It does pay well, but employees still have to pay to get into the parks outside of work, which I thought was kind of uncool. My most proud moment during the internship was when I was working at bob wentz park. I told a lady she could not bring her dog into a certain area of the park and she said okay and started to leave. I saw the vehicle she arrived in and checked the truck and found her puppy, alone, under the seat of the truck in 90 degree weather. The park rangers were called, the window was busted in, and the puppy was safely rescued and brought to the shelter. |
